The Guatemala Literacy Project, an excellent example of Rotary's support of education, focuses on reading, textbooks, computers, and youth development. Each of these areas are effected by extensive systemic poverty, illiteracy and inequality which is complicated by racism, malnutrition and high rates of illiteracy. Since 1996, 608 Rotary clubs in Canada, the US, Europe and the Cayman Islands have cooperated to provide services and resources to improve lives. This project is actively supported by the E-Club of District 6600, Ohio Pathways, who raise funds and also send a team to volunteer in Guatemala each summer.
